BlockTax Boycotts QuickBooks 2000.

On February 14, 2000 we announced a QuickBooks 2000 boycott because:

  1. You MUST have an Internet connection and provide an employer identification number to get and update tax tables.
  2. You MUST pay $72 a year ($6 a month) for tables FOR EACH COMPANY with payroll.  Intuit says you can use QB for many companies, not the $72 per company per year payroll cost.
  3. You cannot manually enter taxes. Social security, Medicare & federal unemployment taxes have the same rates. State and federal income taxes change slightly from year to year. You can adjust unemployment rates without table changes.
  4. QB2000 menus slow you down.

This is the only QB upgrade we did not like. Making social security and employer identification numbers public can lead to credit fraud. Intuit's lack of operating profits suggests it does not charge enough for programs, but CPAs are now being charged up to $3,000 a month to use a $200 program.

February 16, 2000 - Inuit dropped extra tax table charges days after we wrote the above.
