When will you receive your refund? The answer depends on how you filed your return. The IRS should issue your refund within six to eight weeks of filing a paper return. Direct deposit can speed this up. If you e-file, IRS should mail your refund between two and three weeks or direct deposit it within a week. You can start checking on the status of your refund within 24 hours after IRS receives your e-filed return or 4 weeks after mailing a paper return. To check on your refund you need your Social Security number, filing status and refund amount. Your status may change from “Return Received” to “Refund Approved” in a few days, but it can take longer. IRS does not provide payment dates until it approves your refund. It may then take your financial institution one to five days to deposit the funds into your account. FOR AMENDED RETURNS:You should wait 3 weeks after mailing these returns. You must have your Social Security number, date of birth and zip code.
